Here, every session is built on safety, trust and your choice about what to talk about and when. You don't have to tell your whole story to begin.
We work with adults, teens and children, and include caregivers when that helps a young person.

How Trauma Can Show Up
Trauma can follow a single event, like an accident, an assault or a sudden loss, or build up over time, as with abuse, neglect or violence at home. Either way, people may notice:
- Unwanted memories, nightmares or feeling on edge
- Avoiding people, places or reminders
- Trouble sleeping or concentrating
- Feeling numb, ashamed, angry or disconnected
- Strain at home, at school or at work
What Trauma Therapy May Focus On
Care starts with safety and moves at a pace you help set. Along the way, therapy may include:
- Building trust, safety and ways to cope first
- Understanding how painful experiences affect the body, thoughts and relationships
- Working through painful memories when you're ready
- Avoiding less, so daily life feels less limited
- Stronger relationships, routines and support

Understanding Trauma
What trauma is
Trauma is what stays with a person after something frightening, painful or overwhelming. It can be one event or something that went on for years. Two people can go through the same thing and be affected very differently, and neither reaction is wrong.
Why it stays
During danger the body does what it must to get through. Afterwards it can stay braced, as if the danger were still close. That is why reminders can bring the feeling back in full, why sleep suffers, and why some people feel numb or far away. These are the body's protections working overtime, not signs that something is broken in you.
What helps
Feeling safe comes first: in your life, in your body and with the person you're talking to. From there, therapy helps you understand your reactions, build ways to steady yourself, and, when you are ready, work through what happened so it takes up less room. You choose what to share and when.
When to reach out
It's time when the past keeps breaking into the present: in nightmares, in being always on guard, in avoiding places or people, or in feeling cut off. It doesn't matter how long ago it happened.

Common Questions
Do I have to talk about what happened right away?
No. Early sessions usually focus on safety, trust and coping. You decide what to share and when, and your clinician will check in with you about the pace.
Do you offer trauma therapy for children and teens?
Yes. We work with children from birth through age 17, and caregivers are included when clinically appropriate.
Can crime victim compensation help pay for counseling?
It may. We accept Maricopa County, Gila County, Pinal County and Yavapai County Victim Compensation. The victim compensation program in the county where the crime happened decides who qualifies, and can tell you what it covers.
